Patty Noel, a founding Board Member for the local Boys & Girls Club of Portage County, was awarded Boys & Girls Clubs of Wisconsin’s prestigious “Marty Stein Outstanding Board Volunteer Award” in Madison, WI.  Boys & Girls Clubs from across the state of Wisconsin had staff, Board Members, and their respective Youth of the Year nominees present during the ceremony.

One of the founding Board Members for the local Boys & Girls Club, Patty was recognized for her vision to start a Boys & Girls Club back in 2002 to serve thousands of kids from across Portage County.  She has been one of the most active Board Members, serving on most Boys & Girls Club committees, assisting with every fund raising event the Club offers such as Portage County Taste of Wine & Cheese and Passport to Paradise, and is the current and incoming President for the Club’s Board of Directors.

“Patty has made service to children a big part of her personal mission statement,” said Executive Director for the Boys & Girls Club, Kevin Quevillon.  “She is a tireless volunteer whose passion stretches to those kids that really need our services the most.  Both John & Patty had a friendship with Marty Stein, making this award especially meaningful for them.”

Those who knew Marty Stein – a local businessman, philanthropist and former chair of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Milwaukee Board of Trustees – recall his supportive nature when it came to befriending young people, including Club members. He ardently believed in education as the best means for children to escape poverty. When he passed away in 2006, he endowed funds to Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Milwaukee to create a program that would help youth attend and succeed in college. Together with his family, the Clubs developed the structure for the Stein Scholars College Preparatory Program.  In addition to his efforts in Milwaukee, Marty Stein, had a keen interest in ensuring Boys & Girls Clubs would be available to kids around WI, becoming involved in starting Boys & Girls Clubs throughout the state of Wisconsin.

Also recognized during the ceremony was one of the Boys & Girls Club’s newest Board Members, Frank O’Brien, for his participation and support of the Club’s Gateway Report Center and Camp Hope Club Programs.  O’Brien received an award for Outstanding Board Volunteer.

The Boys & Girls Club of Portage County currently provides a wide variety of youth development programs at Clubhouses in Stevens Point, Plover, Junction City, Almond-Bancroft as well as a Peer Court, Gateway Report Center, and Truancy Program.  In 2012, the Boys & Girls Club of Portage County celebrated 10 years of youth development programming in Portage County.  For more information about the Boys & Girls Club of Portage County, contact Kevin Quevillon at 715-341-4386 or visit www.bgclubpc.org.
